Oakridge is also considering the possibility of fielding at 5.0+ team in the Calgary Interclub Tennis League. However, in order for that to happen we will need at least six men and four women at the 5.0 level to sign up. Should such at team be formed, they will play on Thursdays under a slightly different format from the rest of the league. Should formation of a 5.0+ team prove impossible, all registration fees will be refunded.

How to Register

Players who wish to participate must first call Sandy (403-238-0007) and renew their annual membership. They must also request to be placed on a Calgary Interclub Tennis League team. Payments for both may be made over the phone by credit card.

  • Calgary Interclub Tennis League Team Schedules

The 3.0 team plays on Tuesdays from 6:00-9:00 p.m.. The 4.0 team plays on Wednesdays from 6:00-9:00 p.m.. Should a 5.0 team be formed, they will play on Thursdays from 6:00-9:00 p.m.. Unless rained out, all teams play every week from June 1 to August 31. Approximately half of the games played by each team are at home (Oakridge) while the other half are played away (at other clubs). The final schedule will be released by the Calgary Interclub Tennis Team in May.

Although each team will have a roster of up to 12 players, only eight are needed to play each week. Therefore players do not need to worry about missing matches due to work, holidays or emergencies. Team Captains will coordinate teams to ensure that everybody plays when they are able to play. They will also work with players to spread the playing time around evenly.

Matches and Rotations for 3.0 and 4.0 Teams

Each week, the captain chooses eight eligible players (four men and four women) from the team roster to form a team. The team then competes in eight matches against the other team. No player plays more than two matches. Included each week are the following:

    • Men’s singles – 2 matches
    • Women’s singles – 2 matches
    • Mixed doubles – 2 matches
    • Men’s doubles – 1 match
    • Women’s doubles – 1 match

Matches and Rotations for 5.0 Teams

The Calgary Interclub Tennis League is in the process of creating a slightly different format for 5.0 teams. This is necessary because it is so difficult to find women at the 5.0 level. the new format will be announced in the spring of 2011.

Calgary Interclub Tennis League Social Obligations

The Calgary Interclub Tennis League has a social component that all players are asked to respect. It is expected, for example, that the home team will take the visiting team out for snacks and beverages after the match. Players who are unwilling to socialize in this manner are advised not to join this league.

Since the Oakridge Racquet Club does not have a clubhouse, our teams will be going to the Oakridge Boston Pizza after their matches.

    Try Outs

All registered players unknown to us will have to try out in order to ensure that they are capable of playing on the team they have registered for. Those who are not well-suited to the team for which they have registered will have the option of moving to a different team. Those who cannot be accommodated on any team will be offered full refunds.

Try outs will occur on a Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 10:00 a.m.. At least one pro will be on hand to determine the level of each player. Players will try out in the order in which they paid their fees. So players who really want to play on a team (regardless of level) are advised to sign up early in order to ensure placement.

    Fees

Most Calgary tennis clubs have a membership fee in the neighbourhood of $300.00 per season and do not charge extra for interclub participation. At Oakridge, our annual membership fees are so low that this is not an option. However our membership fee combined with our interclub fee works out to about the same price as other clubs.

Registration fees for our Calgary Interclub Tennis League teams are $100.00 per member. This fee covers the following.

    • 54 hours of team court time
    • all league fees
    • all admin fees
    • new balls (when playing at home)
    • food and beverages at all team socials

    Participation of Juniors

Juniors capable of playing at the 5.0 level are welcome to join that team. They are not required to attend the socials but are encouraged to do so. When juniors attend our post-game socials at home, the socials will be held in the Oakridge Boston Pizza restaurant — not the lounge.

    Withdrawals

Players who register for CITL and withdraw prior to April 1, 2012, are eligible for a full refund. Refunds will not be issued after April 1, 2012.

    Team Continuity

Playing on an Interclub team one year does not guarantee admission to the same team the following year. New Interclub teams are formed every season and are filled on a first come first serve basis. The first six men and the first six women to register are automatically placed on the team, provided they meet the standard for that team.
