Tennis

The Oakridge Community Centre houses six outdoor, hardcourt tennis courts. Four of these courts are new and have the same cushioned surface as the Australian Open. Two of the new courts have lights which may be activated between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm.

Why Play Here?

Four of our outdoor tennis courts at Oakridge are the best in Calgary. They are new and do not have cracks. In addition to being new they feature cushioned surfaces that are easier on the knees than regular hard surface tennis courts. Two of our six tennis courts at Oakridge have lights, making it possible to play well past sunset in late summer and early fall. In addition to these features, the courts at Oakridge are equipped with several rain squeegees and are properly sloped for quick drainage.

Clubhouse Facilities

Members at Oakridge have access to changerooms with lockers and showers. The building is staffed more than 95% of the time that tennis activities are scheduled. The presence of staff ensures access to washrooms, telephones, ice, First Aid kits and an AED in the event of an emergency.

Help for Beginners

Tennis players at Oakridge also have many opportunities to improve. In addition to a tennis ball machine which is available for group practice times, the club’s certified instructors put on periodic tennis clinics at various times throughout the summer. These clinics are open to members.

Tennis Options

Tennis players have two options at the Oakridge Racquet Club. They can participate in members-only drop in programs or they can book courts and play on their own with other members. Most players choose to do both.

2012 Members Only Drop-In

Volunteers are organizing 65 hours of free, members-only drop in tennis programs this summer. They will run Wednesday and Thursday evenings (7:00-9:00pm) and Saturday mornings, 9:00am-11:30pm. These programs will run from June 26 until Aug 31. All levels are welcome. All participants must either be members of the ORC or have valid guest passes. Guest passes can be purchased through the front office.

A members-only teens-only drop-in program will run on Friday evenings from 7:00-9:00pm from June 26 until Aug 31.

Reserve Tennis Courts

Five outdoor tennis courts are available for private reservations so that ORC members may play with their families and friends. Members may use our online court booking software to reserve court space from May through October.

Tennis Ball Machine

The Oakridge Tennis Club has a professional grade tennis ball machine that can be used by members during specified hours. The machine is also used for lessons by some of our certified, adult tennis instructors.

A total of 75 hours of group tennis ball machine time is scheduled for the summer of 2012:

June 25 to August 31
Mondays: 6:00-9:00pm
Wednesdays, 7:00-9:00pm
Saturdays, 9:00-11:30am

During these periods the ball machine is open for group use by ORC members.

Please note that the ball machine is never available for use during tournaments or other events. From time to time it may also have to go in for repairs and may be temporarily unavailable.
