Arrests Made in Break Ins

As the Block Watch coordinator for Oakridge, I spoke with our new Community Liaison Officer, Constable Courage, today.

He told me that an arrest has been made in the case of the three men who were breaking into houses in Oakridge during the daytime hours last month. Apparently, they were coming from a flop house located somewhere near the corner of Southland Drive and 24 Street.

He also told me that arrests have been made around the recent break-ins at Oak Bay Plaza. Two people were involved. But police believe they have now stopped this activity.

Residents are currently being asked to continue to keep an eye out for car prowlings and vandals. When you see a crime in progress, please call 9-1-1. When you see a suspicious person, please call 403-266-1234.

There are currently 11 households participating in the Oakridge Block Watch program. Our goal is to have 100 households involved before the end of the year. Please click here to join us.

Crime Stats in Oakridge

Although Oakridge is one of the safest Calgary communities in which to live, the Calgary Police Service’s new crime mapping service does make some local crime trends more apparent.

For example, the closer you live to Southland Drive and the Calgary Co-op in Oakridge, the more likely you are to suffer the indignity and inconvenience of car theft. Similarly, assaults and sexual assaults are more common within a block of the Point and Feather than anywhere else in our community.

Crime can and does occur almost anywhere though. So Oakridge residents are asked to keep an eye out for suspicious activity, especially after dark. All crimes in progress should be reported to 911. Suspicious activity, meanwhile, should be reported to 403-266-1234.
